What we fund

The Music Therapy Charity funds essential and pioneering research which supports the growth and reputation of the profession

The Music Therapy Charity supports entry into the profession through its student bursaries, and funds pioneering research which helps demonstrate the effectiveness of music therapy.

The Music Therapy Charity makes training more accessible through its bursary scheme for Masters students. Our funding supports essential costs such as therapy sessions, equipment, childcare, and travel. This makes a real difference in students’ lives and learning.

Research is at the core of the Music Therapy Charity and we invest in the research community in two ways – annual small grants and large projects. We offer small grants of up to £1,500 for practicing music therapists to undertake or start up original research into their clinical work, often as part of a PhD project. These funds can help pay for staffing, supervision or collection and analysis of data.

Our larger grants of up to £17,000 support scoping projects likely to result in large-scale bids for funding to national or international research bodies to investigate crucial and underdeveloped aspects of music therapy research. We also fund PhDs when funds allow.
