The Music Therapy Charity is seeking a new Chair to start by 1st March 2027. The current Chair, Professor Helen Odell Miller OBE is stepping down after 4 years during which time she has overseen major developments in fundraising, and the mission and branding of the charity.
The Chair oversees the work of the charity and would ideally have either a background in leading a charity, or another organisation, or an interest in doing so, and some experience of leading people and committees. The Board consists of a wide range of committed and skilled individuals, including some specialists within music therapy, research and related fields. It is a voluntary role currently with no CEO within the charity, supported by a part time paid officer who administrates and oversees the day to day running of the charity. It is expected a 3 or 4 years term of office would be held by any new Chair.
The charity has for over 55 years made a unique and specialist contribution to the work of music therapists in the UK and internationally. It provides grants towards essential and pioneering research and training which support the growth and reputation of the music therapy profession. This is a challenging period for the charity, as it develops a contemporary social media presence and fundraising strategy in a crowded marketplace.
