Professor John Habron-James

John Habron-James is Professor in Music and Head of Music, Health, and Wellbeing at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Manchester, UK, where he teaches and supervises from undergraduate to post-doctoral level. Having trained as a composer and music therapist, he now undertakes transdisciplinary research at the intersection of music education and music therapy. In 2016, John guest-edited a special issue of Approaches: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Music Therapy that focused on Dalcroze Eurhythmics in Special Music Education and Music Therapy. He also co-edited Navigating Landscapes of Dalcroze Practice: Histories of Music of Movement (Boydell & Brewer, 2025) with Johanna Laakkonen and Selma Landen Odom. John is Extraordinary Professor in the MASARA (Musical Arts in South Africa: Resources and Applications) Research Entity at North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa. He led the founding of the International Conference of Dalcroze Studies (ICDS), chairing its Scientific Committee from 2012 to 2023.
